JUnit documentation - I want to help!

JUnit - User mailing list
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to you regarding JUnit tests tutorials. I am currently studying informatics at University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, and while browsing https://github.com/junit-team/junit/wiki/Getting-started I discovered that very basic instructions on how to start using JUnit tests are quite brief. My supervisor has some tutorials for beginners; however, they are in Czech - not very useful for the rest of the world. I was thinking of perharps filling in this gap - I probably would be able to prepare a consistent introduction based on materials provided. Could it be useful for you? If so, I would appreciate some starting tips (suitable/recommended tools for writing, formating standards etc.)

RegardsTereza S.

Tereza,

Thanks for your mail!  The tutorial you linked to is definitely on the
shorter side.  However, searching for "JUnit tutorials" does provide a
number of write-ups of varying lengths and quality.  Before you devote a
lot of time to writing your own, I wonder if you think that perhaps one of
those would be a good thing to link to as a supplement to what's on the
github site?

Thanks,

   David

Re: JUnit documentation - I want to help!

Hello, David.

Yes, you're right, there are plenty materials; however, the quality is not always very good. I haven't discovered any consistent summarizing set of basic rules (or introduction) for beginners. Also I have chosen the topic to be my bachelor's thesis so I am going to write this kind of text anyway, and thought it might be useful for you as well.

For you my work can be an experiment which is not going to cost you a thing, and if you like it you can use it without any further adjustments as a part of JUnit wikihelp. I would also like to create the materials from the very beginning so that they are consistent with the official formats JUnit uses (so that the users can see the connection with JUnit straight away).
That is why I would appreciate to use the formats and tools that JUnit team uses. Would you mind giving me some hints as to what tools would be the most suitable?

It will not be ready very soon; the earliest in March 2016, I suppose.
RegardsTereza
